Friends with Wheels is the VNA’s companion program designed to keep you active and independent, so you’re free to do the things you enjoy.
Here’s how it works. You receive a visit by a VNA nurse who evaluates your individual needs. We match you with one of our trained, VNA-certified companions who best meets your needs. You’ll be having fun in no time! And, best of all, you’ll have 24-hour access to a VNA nurse.

Services include:

  • Transportation
  • Appointment Setting
  • Go for scenic drives
  • Visit friends or family
  • Keep your doctor appointments
  • Run errands or go shopping
  • Go to a concert or the movies
  • Play cards or a game
  • Do light housekeeping or laundry
  • Organize your home
  • Prepare meals

VNA companions are thoroughly background checked and attend a 20-hour training seminar, where they learn about home safety, nutrition, communication and emergency response procedures before they are matched with a client. The program helps seniors maintain their independence with customized services designed to meet their individual needs.

Companion Client Testimonials

"I no longer drive because of a shattered knee. Thanks to my companion, I had an enjoyable winter. She's my driver, my shopper and now, my friend. On the days she comes to my home, we go to the doctor, supermarket and beauty parlor. If I can't get out of the car, she does my errands, and the entire time we talk and talk. Seeing my companion is the highlight of my week."

"My husband and I needed help. Going to the grocery store was difficult and used to take a couple of hours. I called the VNA, and now my companion handles the shopping and has the groceries puts away in an hour. She also does laundry, cooks dinner, bakes, and is anxious to do anything she can to assist us. VNA's companion service has been a big help to me and my husband."
