VNA Hospice Patients Honored

Readings, songs, tributes and a parade of butterflies highlighted the VNA’s biannual Ceremony of Remembrance held March 13, 2008 to celebrate and commemorate loved ones who have passed on.

Families and loved ones were joined at the Thursday afternoon ceremony by VNA Hospice employees and volunteers to honor more than 500 patients who died between July 1 and December 30, 2007. Family and friends also participated in the program by sharing personal stories, poems and memories about their loved ones.

VNA Hospice Chaplain, Reverend Ken Jones, recited the inspirational reading, and VNA Hospice volunteer Dorothy Hindert read the poem “Gone From My Sight.” Tania Ortega-Cowan, accompanied by pianist Jean Rasp, sang “Amazing Grace” and “What a Wonderful World.”

The non-denominational ceremony was held at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Sebastian. The Ceremony of Remembrance was followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
