VERO BEACH, Fla. – (April 2, 2008) – The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) recently published its quarterly family evaluation of hospice care for VNA Hospice of Indian River County. The report—based on data provided by families about care received by their loved one while under hospice care—compares VNA Hospice scores with state and national averages. The hospices were evaluated on response rates, demographic information, performance of care and symptom management. The report covers the fourth quarter of 2007.
VNA Hospice received top ratings in the following areas during the quarter:
· Help with patient’s feelings of anxiety/sadness
· Pain medication management
· Symptom management related to breathing
· Hospice emotional support to family prior to patient’s death
· Family education related to patient care
VNA Hospice of Indian River County ranked in the 97th percentile among hospices across the state of Florida for the quality of care provided while receiving hospice services and in the 100th percentile for the overall rating of hospice team members who provided care.
