Wound Care Nurse Earns Certification

Stephanie Vaccaro

Vero Beach, Fla. – (April 17, 2006) – Stephanie Vaccaro, RN, wound care nurse at the Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast, has earned her wound care certification, making her the second nurse on staff at the VNA with advanced expertise in wound care.

Vaccaro works on the wound care team to provide specialized care to patients with conditions such as diabetic wounds and post-surgical wounds. Together this specialized team of nurses serves approximately one third of the VNA’s patients.

Vaccaro joined the VNA five years ago and became a member of the wound care team two years ago. “Wound care is an interesting area of care because you can really see the progress a patient is making,” she said.

Vaccaro obtained her wound care certification after attending a week-long seminar in Ft. Lauderdale and passing a wound care examination. “At the seminar, I learned about the different products that can help our wound patients and now have a better understanding of the difference between the types of wounds I see in patients,” she said.

The VNA will send two more nurses to a seminar in July to receive their wound care certification with plans to have all of the wound care nurses certified by year’s end.

The Visiting Nurse Association is Indian River County’s first, and remains its sole, non-profit home health and hospice agency. For more information about VNA services and programs, visit www.vnatc.com or call (772) 567-5551.
