VERO BEACH, Fla. (April 21, 2006) – Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast will commemorate National Visiting Nurse Association Week from May 6-12 to raise public awareness about home health care and the critical role the Visiting Nurse Association plays in providing comprehensive, affordable services in Indian River County.
VNAs across the country employ more than 150,000 highly trained professionals who care for more than 4 million patients nationwide each year. National VNA Week was declared by a joint resolution of the US Congress, to recognize those nurses, clinicians and health care professionals dedicated to the VNA mission. VNA Week celebrates the founding of the VNA mission by Florence Nightingale, whose birthday is May 12 -- the last day of VNA Week.
“We are proud that since 1975, VNA of the Treasure Coast has brought high-quality, affordable, community-based health care services to people in the comfort of their homes,” said Sharon Broome, president/CEO. “National VNA Week celebrates and honors VNA nurses in Indian River County and their continued commitment to providing critical health care services to local residents.”
She added, “Most people prefer the comfort and security of home for recovering from an illness or injury, and VNA nurses help provide home health care services that range from highly skilled and technical nursing care to assistance with the essential activities of daily living.”
Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast provides services to approximately 20,000 Indian River County residents each year. The agency provides home health care for patients of all ages – from infants to elderly, including skilled nursing, hospice care, wound care, IV therapy, physical, occupational and speech therapy, treatment for chronic conditions, medical social work and post-hospital care. Homecare is a cost-effective alternative to expensive care settings, such as hospitals and nursing homes.
