Celebrate National VNA Week May 6 – 12, 2007

MAY 1, 2007 (VERO BEACH, FL) — The Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast will commemorate “National Visiting Nurse Association Week” from May 6 – 12 to raise public awareness about home healthcare and the critical role visiting nurses play in providing comprehensive, affordable services throughout Indian River, Brevard, and northern St. Lucie Counties.

VNAs employ more than 150,000 highly trained professionals who care for more than 4 million patients nationwide each year. National VNA Week was declared to recognize those nurses, clinicians and healthcare professionals dedicated to the VNA mission.

“We are proud that for more than 30 years, visiting nurses have brought high-quality, affordable, community-based healthcare services to people in our community in the comfort of their homes,” said Sharon Broome, President and CEO. “National VNA Week celebrates and honors visiting nurses in our community and their continued commitment to providing critical healthcare services to local residents. Many people prefer the comfort and security of home for recovering from an illness or injury, or receiving hospice care, and visiting nurses help provide home healthcare services that range from highly skilled and technical nursing care, including rehabilitation, to assistance with the essential activities of daily living.”

The VNA provides comprehensive healthcare services, including: skilled nursing care; home health aides; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; as well as companions and transportation. The non-profit organization also provides community wellness services such as flu and pneumonia vaccine clinics, blood pressure/blood sugar screenings, and a speakers bureau. The VNA is also the only licensed hospice provider in Indian River County.
