VNA 16th Annual Golf-A-Thon Raises the Bar

Participating pros from 12 area clubs

Vero Beach, Fla. – (May 18, 2006) –The Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation’s annual Golf-A-Thon hit an all-time high this year.

The 16th annual Golf-A-Thon, which took place on May 8 at Indian River Club, raised more than $160,000 for Indian River County individuals and families in need of home health and hospice care, topping last year’s event total of $153,000.

Golf pros from 12 area clubs played an incredible 135 holes of golf. Community members pledged a dollar amount per hole each pro played. Additionally, many businesses and individuals sponsored the event or made donations to the Golf-A-Thon.

Proceeds from the event will provide individuals and families of limited financial resources with hospice care; skilled nursing services; bereavement counseling; and physical, speech, and occupational therapies.

Co-chairmen for the event were Marilyn Wurzer and Judi Bradley. The participating pros and their clubs included: Pat Gorman of Bent Pine Gulf Club, Frank Mentzer of Grand Harbor Golf Club, Phil Leddy of Hawk’s Nest Golf Club, Joe Kern of Indian River Club, Kurt Thull of John’s Island Club, Todd Dittmar for Tom Thornton of The Moorings Club, Rich Waage of Orchid Island Golf Club, Mark Cammarene of The Club at Pointe West, Steve Archer of Quail Valley Golf Club, Bob Gruber of Riomar Country Club, Randy Hedgecock of Vero Beach Country Club and Matthew Challenor of Windsor.
