PBS to Air Documentary About Children Living with Cancer

VERO BEACH, Fla. (June 15, 2006) – Every year in the United States approximately 12,500 children are diagnosed with cancer. A new PBS television series, A Lion in the House, will offer a look at the cancer journeys of five young people and their families over a six-year period. This two-part series offers an intimate view of patients, families and professional caregivers when a cure for cancer is beyond reach.

The VNA Hospice, in conjunction with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, is urging people to watch this film as an educational tool for pediatric palliative care. The documentary will be broadcast locally by WXEL on June 22 and June 23 at 1 and 4 a.m. For more information on the film or to receive outreach or educational materials connected to the film visit www.itvs.org/outreach/lioninthehouse.

The VNA was Indian River County’s first, and remains its sole, non-profit home health and hospice agency. For more information about VNA programs and services, call (772) 567-5551 or visit www.vnatc.com.
