VNA Announces Executive Management Transition

The Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast announced today that President and CEO Sharon K. Broome would retire in July after leading the agency for sixteen years. A VNA executive search committee conducted a nationwide recruitment effort and has selected James P. Newbrough as the home health organization’s new President and CEO.

Ms. Broome joined the VNA of the Treasure Coast in August of 1992. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to identify community health needs and implement VNA programs to address them. During her tenure, the VNA has achieved some remarkable outcomes, including:  building the VNA Hospice House and establishing a $5 million endowment for its operation; growing its annual influenza vaccination program from 2,700 immunizations to well over 15,000; and achieving home health outcomes exceeding state and national benchmarks. She has also been instrumental in opening two new satellite offices, launching the Camp Chrysalis bereavement camp for children, expanding the Hidden Treasures resale boutique, and increasing the VNA mobile unit schedule to seven days each week. Most recently, she’s guided the launch of a cutting-edge home telehealth initiative as well as the VNA’s purchase of Nightingale Private Duty Nursing.

A longtime advocate of community involvement, Ms. Broome served as President of the Florida Council of VNAs from 1996 to 2008 and as an active volunteer with the United Way of Indian River County since 2000. “My journey with the VNA has been incredible,” she said, “and I am proud to have traveled it. Long after I depart, the VNA of the Treasure Coast will continue its dedication to this community, with integrity and high standards of care for all the patients it serves.”

Mr. Newbrough will continue the VNA tradition, bringing to the agency over sixteen years of home care experience in a wide variety of positions. Most recently, he served as President of HomeReach, OhioHealth’s home care company. He has also served as Vice President of the Visiting Nurse Service & Affiliates in Akron, Ohio and as Administrator for the Florida market of Bon Secours Home Health Services. “I am very excited about joining the VNA team and working with the staff, board, and community members to continue building upon the success of this great organization,” he said. Mr. Newbrough is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, and a graduate of the Leadership Akron program. He will reside in Vero Beach with his wife Kesia and sons, Kyle, Ryan, and Tyler.
