VNA Nurse Earns Wound Care Certification

VERO BEACH, Fla. (July 8, 2005) – Linda Hanisak, RN, patient care manager for the Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast, has earned her wound care certification, making her the only home care nurse with this certification in Indian River County. With her expertise, Hanisak oversees a wound care team comprised of 10 nurses specially trained in the field through conferences, in-house seminars and journals. Together the wound care team provides specialized care for one third of the VNA’s patients.

“As a certified wound care nurse, I am able to act as a clinical expert, consultant and educator to the agency, staff and patients,” Hanisak said.

Hanisak was certified in April from the Medical University of South Carolina after three weeks of intense training followed by a comprehensive exam. Additionally, she attended the 37th annual Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing conference in Las Vegas in June to further her knowledge on advanced wound technologies. Another VNA nurse, Martha Waggaman, who specializes in diabetes wound care also attended the conference.

“The conference was very beneficial because we were able to bring back new information on caring for our wound patients,” Hanisak said.  “Networking was an integral part of our learning because we were able to discuss ideas on how to best manage our patients.”

The VNA was Indian River County’s first, and remains its sole, non-profit home health and hospice agency. For more information about our services, visit www.vnatc.com or call (772) 567-5551.
