Two VNA Nurses Earn Wound Care Certification

Vero Beach, Fla. (July 25, 2006) - Mary Bussey and Janice Sales, wound care nurses at the Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast, earned their wound care certification after attending a week-long seminar in Ft. Lauderdale and passing a national wound care examination.

Including Bussey and Sales, four of the eight wound care nurses at the VNA have been certified in wound care during the past year. “We are in the process of having our entire wound care team certified within the next two years,” said Linda Hanisak, wound care specialist who heads the wound care team.

Both Bussey and Sales were charter members of the VNA wound care team, which was initiated more than two years ago. “I enjoy doing wound care because it is always a challenge,” Sales said. “You see improvement and people usually get better, which is satisfying.”

Bussey, who has been practicing in healthcare for 30 years, and Sales, a nurse of five years, accumulated 2,000 hours of wound care experience in order to be eligible for certification. “It was an excellent class that enhanced and reinforced our wound care knowledge,” Bussey said. “I would do it all over again if I had to, and I thank the VNA for sending me.”

The Visiting Nurse Association is Indian River County’s first, and remains its sole, non-profit home health and hospice agency. For more information about VNA services and programs, visit www.vnatc.com or call (772) 567-5551.
