VNA Hospice's Camp Chrysalis Helps Children Who Have Lost a Loved One

Do you know a child who has experienced the loss of a loved one? Then sign them up for VNA Hospice’s Camp Chrysalis, a one-day bereavement retreat for children who have experienced a loss. The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday, October 17, at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Drive. Ceramics, musical instrument participation, and outside games and activities are just a few of the fun activities planned for the day.

The camp is staffed by VNA bereavement counselors, volunteers and activity leaders who are trained in bereavement support. Special camp activities are designed to help children work through their grief and understand that their emotions are a normal part of the grieving process. Campers have an opportunity to interact with peers who have experienced a similar loss and discover they are not alone. Outside activities will be provided by Steve and Bonnie Pfiester from Longevity Fitness and Navy JROTC cadets from the Sebastian River High School will serve as youth leaders.

Camp Chrysalis is free of charge for Indian River County children ages 7—12, and is not limited to those who have been served by VNA Hospice. The event is made possible by the Clint S. Malone Memorial fund through the Indian River Community Foundation.

Application deadline is October 2. For more information or to register a child, contact Maxine Stewart at 772.978.5629. For more information about VNA services, call 772.567.5551 or visit www.vnatc.com.
