VERO BEACH, Fla. – (September 19, 2008) – Painting, ceramics and outside games are just a few of the fun activities planned for VNA Hospice’s Camp Chrysalis, a bereavement retreat for children who have lost a loved one. The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday, October 18, at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Drive.
The camp is staffed by VNA bereavement counselors, volunteers and activity leaders who are trained in bereavement support. Special camp activities are designed to help children work through their grief and understand that their emotions are a normal part of the grieving process. Campers have an opportunity to interact with peers who have experienced a similar loss and discover they are not alone. Outside activities will be provided by City Fit and Navy JROTC cadets from the Sebastian River High School will serve as youth leaders.
Camp Chrysalis is free of charge for Indian River County children ages 7—12, and is not limited to those who have been served by VNA Hospice. The event is sponsored by John’s Island Community Service League, Rotary Club of Orchid Island and Quail Valley Charities.
