VNA Welcomes Clinician Consultant

VERO BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 23, 2005) - The Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast is pleased to announce that Monica Byers, MSN, board-certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, has joined its organization as clinician consultant, making it the first home health care agency in Indian River County to partner with an advanced practitioner.

Byers, who has more than seven years of experience in cardiology, emergency medicine, geriatrics and adult health, will work closely with VNA nurses, home health aides, therapists and social workers. In her role as VNA clinician consultant, Byers will provide home care services to patients and serve as a liaison between patients and their attending physician. As an ARNP, Byers also can provide services that enhance and expedite patient care including writing medication prescriptions and ordering lab work and X-rays.

Additionally, Byers will help develop and oversee a cardiac program designed to improve the quality of life and promote optimal wellness for cardiac patients. Byers will provide in-service programs to VNA’s clinical staff, implement patient education programs, and make home visits to patients.

“Home care is a crucial part of patient wellness and recovery and I am thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with the VNA to expand its patient care services,” Byers said. “The agency’s new cardiac care team is a groundbreaking home care program aimed at supporting patients with cardiac issues, and I look forward to meeting this new challenge and helping better serve our community."

Prior to starting her own company – Mobile Medical Inc. – Byers worked as a nurse practitioner and cardiology manager for Vero Medical Associates, where she was responsible for the daily operations of the cardiology unit. She also served as an emergency department nurse for Indian River Memorial Hospital.

After receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing science from Florida Atlantic University, Byers became board certified as an adult health practitioner. Additionally, she is a certified educational trainer in end-of-life, hospice and palliative care, and also serves as a mentor for nurse practitioner students.

The Visiting Nurse Association is Indian River County’s first, and remains its sole, non-profit home health and hospice agency. For more information about VNA services and programs, visit www.vnatc.com or call (772) 567-5551.
