VNA Hospice to Host Free Journaling Workshop Nov. 11

VERO BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2005) – In celebration of National Hospice Month in November, VNA Hospice is hosting a free journaling workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the VNA & Hospice Foundation boardroom, 1155 35th Lane, Suite 203.

VNA Hospice bereavement staff and “Life Without Lisa” author Richard Ballo will help individuals who have lost a loved one cope with their grief through journaling their thoughts.

“Writing down our feelings is one of the many ways we can work through the grief process. Powerful and painful emotions can be expressed through journaling, which is an important coping tool for the bereaved parent, spouse or loved one,” said Gayle Masters, bereavement counselor. “Sitting down and writing can be overwhelming for someone who is not accustomed to doing this. In this workshop, we’ll give participants the tools they need to express their emotions in a safe, healing and creative environment.”

Space for the journaling workshop is limited; call (772) 978-5515 to reserve a spot.

Also as part of National Hospice Month, VNA Hospice will be hosting “Life Without Lisa” author Richard Ballo on Nov. 12 at the Vero Beach Book Festival in downtown Vero Beach at the Heritage Center. “Life Without Lisa” is the poignant story of one man’s healing journey through the stages of grief. The author kept a detailed journal of his 38-year-old wife’s death from cancer and the five years that followed. Readers walk a mile in Ballo’s shoes as they learn what it’s like to be widowed with young children to raise.

Ballo will be at the VNA Hospice table signing books from 9 a.m. to noon; proceeds from the sale of the book at the fair will benefit VNA Hospice. For more information about the book festival, or to sign up for the journaling workshop, call (772) 978-5515 or e-mail amann@vnatc.com.
