Women Gather for Philanthropy Event

Vero Beach, Fla. – (November 10, 2005) –Women from around the community gathered for an interactive discussion at the Women & Philanthropy symposium held Nov. 9 at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

The annual event helps educate women about the impact of philanthropy on their communities and provides them with opportunities to share their resources in a meaningful way to benefit area programs. Women played a vital role in the donation of more than 240 billion dollars in the United States last year.

Keynote speaker Sydney Green, founder of the Center for Women’s Philanthropy at the Community Foundation of Central Florida, spoke about the importance of philanthropy in women’s lives and their “strategic generosity.”

Several facilitators hosted discussions about community foundations, private donations, and legitimate causes for personal philanthropy. Facilitators included:  Mark Brewer of the Community Foundation of Central Florida Inc.; Heather Bulk of Wachovia Wealth Management; Susan Calistri of Harris Private Bank; Susan Chenault of Northern Trust; Todd Fennell of Gould, Cooksey, Fennell, O’Neill, Marine, Carter & Hafner, P.A.; Trent Kiziah of U.S. Trust Company, N.A.; Thomas Lee of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart; and Robin Lloyd of Robin A. Lloyd, Sr. & Associates, P.A. 

Attendees also received the book “The Greater Good: How Philanthropy Drives the American Economy and Can Save Capitalism” by Claire Gaudiani, courtesy of The Robert F. and Eleonora W. McCabe Foundation.

Collaborating organizations included: The Education Foundation, McKee Botanical Garden, Riverside Theatre, the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation.
