VNA Welcomes Nurse Practitioner

Joy HuleckiVERO BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2005) - The Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast is pleased to announce that Joy Hulecki, board-certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, has joined its organization as a clinical nurse specialist, making it the only home care agency in Indian River County to offer the services of advanced practice nurses.

Hulecki, who has 25 years of experience in urology, geriatrics and clinical research, will work closely with VNA nurses, home health aides, therapists and social workers. Hulecki joins fellow nurse practitioner Monica Byers, who specializes in cardiology and adult health.

Hulecki will provide services to patients that expedite and enhance their home care, including writing prescriptions and ordering lab work and X-rays. Additionally, she will serve as a liaison between patients and their attending physicians, provide educational programs to VNA’s clinical staff, help implement patient education programs, and participate in quality improvement research. In 2006, Hulecki will help develop and oversee the agency’s new telehealth program designed to improve the quality of life and promote optimal wellness for homebound patients.

“VNA’s new partnership with nurse practitioners will bring clinical care in the home setting to a whole new level,” Hulecki said. “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to apply my training in geriatrics and background in public health promotion to help the VNA expand its patient care services and better serve our community.”

Prior to joining the VNA, Hulecki worked as continence nurse specialist and clinical trials coordinator in Columbia, SC. She also served as an RN at Holmes Regional Medical Center and trained as a student nurse practitioner at Tandem Health Care. She holds a master’s degree in public health from University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in nursing Florida Atlantic University. Hulecki is a member of the American College of Nurse Practitioners, Florida Nurses Association and Society of Urological Nurses and Associates.
