Camp Chrysalis/Kid Connection

For a child, the loss of a loved one can be devastating and understanding the feelings that come afterwards can be confusing. VNA’s Camp Chrysalis, a bereavement-focused camp, and Kid Connection, a virtual bereavement-focused monthly gathering, offer a way for children to better understand and cope with their emotions.

Kid Connection

Kid Connection is a bereavement-focused program offering a way for children who have experienced the death of a relative, loved one or close friend to better understand and work through their emotions. It is a monthly gathering where kids can connect virtually with other kids and work through the loss of a loved one with music, art and other supportive activities.

Kid Connection is a four-month program held one Saturday of each month.

Camp Chrysalis

Camp Chrysalis offers a combination of fun, outdoor activities and therapeutic sessions for the children.  Taking place in the fall and spring, the camp is staffed by VNA trained counselors and staff and the camp activities are designed to help children work through their grief and understand that their emotions are a normal part of the grieving process. Camp Chrysalis includes:

  • Recreational activities
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Mediation
  • Aromatherapy
  • Music therapy

Camp Chrysalis and/or Kid Connection may be the first step on a child’s personal grief journey, and are currently the only programs in our community focused on children and their unique and personal bereavement needs. Camp Chrysalis and Kid Connection are made possible by the Otis G. Pike Charitable Trust and Quail Valley Charities.

Camper Qualifications

There is no cost to attend Camp Chrysalis, but children must be an Indian River County resident between the ages 6-12.

Camp Chrysalis is on hold due to COVID-19
