Approximately 80 local caregivers gathered together at the Visiting Nurse Association’s (VNA) second Caregiver Conference, held this November at First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. As part of an ongoing effort to assist caregivers in the community, the VNA partners with other local organizations, resources and experts to offer the event at no-cost to the community. The conference gave caregivers the opportunity to identify their biggest caregiving challenges, share tips and ideas with each other and have their questions answered by a panel of experts representing local organizations and resources.
Missi Hatfield, professional speaker and achievement coach, kicked off the conference by leading attendees in a peer-to-peer interactive activity that encouraged caregivers to offer their shared knowledge of tips and solutions to common caregiving problems. Through her workshop, Missi explained that being a caregiver does not mean you are alone in this journey. The second portion of the conference, a moderated question and answer panel with local experts, consisted of representatives from the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association of IRC, Veteran’s Council, Law Office of Marie Conforti, Senior Resource Association, Mental Health Association of IRC and the VNA. Caregivers had open discussions with panelists and were able to get answers specific to their needs. Cindy Bryant, radio host and local publisher, was the guest moderator for the event.
